Haiti Mission Trailer with Miley Cyrus The Starkey Hearing Foundation embarked on a life-changing mission to Haiti after the earthquake to give the gift of hearing to more than 500 children affected by profound hearing loss. Renowned singer and actress Miley Cyrus volunteered on the mission, joining our efforts at Institut Montfort School for the deaf in Port au Prince, Haiti. Cyrus’s hard work and spirit were a special part of the mission and—as this short clip reveals—had joyous results. Starkey Hearing Foundation’s Haiti Hearing Mission was one of the many conducted each year both domestically and internationally. All Starkey Hearing Foundation missions include the distribution of hearing aids and batteries, custom fittings, audio testing, and counseling on how to care for the devices to individuals in need that are affected by hearing loss. The Foundation will return to Haiti on mission with Miley Cyrus in 2012 to continue worldwide efforts to share the gift of hearing with those who have hearing loss. “I grew up around music with my brothers and sisters and couldn’t imagine what it would be like if we couldn’t hear the magic of music — it’s had such an influence on my life — so I want everyone to have the ability to enjoy sound as it was intended.” The 18-year-old actress won a silent auction over the weekend at the So The World May Hear Awards Gala that would send her back to Haiti on her second hearing mission. “After I went on my first mission to Haiti with the
